English Speaking Therapist Mariela Olmedo
I am a native of Chile and a Clinical Therapist (LCSW, MSW). I began studying psychology at the age of 17 in Chile. I continued my studies in Utah, United States, where I obtained both a bachelor degree in psychology and a master degree in clinical social work at Brigham Young University (BYU). Most of my interventions are based on research although I intuitively focus on individual strengths to facilitate growth. I employ several types of therapy. My approach is strength-based and use different modalities incorporating a body-mind and heart approach. My work is rooted in the belief that the deep personal growth work I have done personally is what allows me to hold an effective space for others’ transformation and healing.
Prior moving to Germany, I worked in a clinic in Southern California as a mental health provider where I assisted clients with different issues such as: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, marital conflicts, attention deficit disorder, sexual abuse, and others.
I had a work experience at the state prison in Utah where I held group therapy and assisted female inmates to overcome substance abuse, shame and guilt, and trauma. Additionally, I worked four years in a residential treatment center with severe mentally ill clients and at a residential juvenil treatment center.
I have developed and presented psychoeducational slide presentations and taught workshops internationally on wellness-related topics and meditation.
I am dedicated to helping English/Spanish speaker expatriates to experience deeply integrated transformation and developing skills to have greater wholeness, peace, and joy in Germany.
